Underarm hair grows in several directions, which is why shaving leaves stubble and dark shadow so quickly. Waxing removes it from the root in one pass, so the area stays smooth for 2–4 weeks and regrowth comes back finer. The appointment takes about 10 minutes and costs $10 for women, $15 for men.
We use hard wax, worked in small sections in different directions to follow the hair. It is normal for the underarm to feel tender and look slightly pink for a few hours afterwards; the lymph nodes there can make it one of the more sensitive areas the first time, and it settles with regular visits.
Before: let hair grow about a quarter inch, and come with clean, product-free underarms — skip deodorant that morning if you can. After: avoid deodorant, the gym, and tight sleeves for 24 hours, then exfoliate a couple of times a week to prevent ingrowns. Underarms are an easy add-on to a Brazilian or leg wax on the same visit.
